11 die, 10 injured in Kebbi highway accident
Eleven passengers lost their lives in a fatal motor accident on Friday in Kebbi State.
Ten others sustained varying degrees of injury and undergoing treatment at Shanga General Hospital in the state.
The accident was said to have happened along Koko- Yauri Road at around 6am, after the driver of a Volvo DAF truck with number plate, KWA 230 SKK, lost control.
The truck driven by one Alhaji Sule, 49yrs was loaded with passengers and bags of beans going to Ibadan, Oyo State somersaulted on reaching Giron Masa village.
The Kebbi State Police Command Spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the victims were evacuated to the hospital by police operatives attached to Shanga Police Station.
“ON the 3rd November, 2023, at about 0600hrs, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident along Koko_ Yauri road, involving a Volvo DAF truck with registration number KWA 230 SKK, driven by one Alhaji Sule ‘m’ aged 40yrs of Gada LGA of Sokoto State.
He said, “The truck which was loaded with passengers and bags of beans was coming from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State. On reaching Giron Masa village, Shanga LGA, the driver of the truck lost control. As a result, it somersaulted and Twenty One (21) passengers sustained various degrees of injuries.
“On receipt of the report, a team of Policemen from Shanga Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to General hospital,Shanga, for treatment, where a medical Doctor confirmed Eleven (11) dead, while the remaining victims are responding to treatment”.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Chris Aimionowane, called on the NURTW, NARTO and other road users to always ensure they put in place adequate safety measures in their vehicles and be cautious while on the road.
