14 wedding guests die after boat capsizes while returning home

At least 14 people have died after a boat conveying wedding guests capsized in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The accident occurred on Friday at Gumbi village in Gumbi Ward, shortly after the passengers had accompanied a bride to her husband’s house in Gwarzo village, Ngaski LGA, Channels TV reports.
The guests were said to be returning home when the boat overturned, throwing more than 100 passengers into the water.
Fourteen people — 13 women and one child — reportedly lost their lives in the incident.
The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, attended the funeral prayer for some of the deceased on Saturday and condoled with the immediate families of the victims, the local government, the emirate and the people of Yauri
The governor, who was represented by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Abubakar Shu’aibu, urged the grieving families and the wider community to accept the development in good faith.
“I appeal to you to accept this in good faith, bearing in mind that nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator.
“God does what He wants at the time He wants, and nobody has the right to question Him,” he said.
He also prayed to God to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.
All the victims have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
