20 months after Ajagungbade’s demise, Makinde approves selection of new Soun of Ogbomoso
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Afolabi Olaoye as the Soun-elect of Ogbomoso.
In a statement released on Saturday, Olusegun Olayiwola, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, said the announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.
“His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears,” the statement reads.
Olayiwola said the monarch-elect’s new position requires him to nurture harmony among the people and urged natives of Ogbomoso to cooperate with Olaoye in achieving a successful rule.
Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, the former Soun, died in December 2021, at the age of 95 after he reigned for 48 years.
Afolabi, a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor is a descendant of the 9th Soun of Ogbomoso, the late Oba Laoye Orumogege from Baiyewuwon ruling house of Aremo House, Ode-Aremo, Ogbomoso.
