The Ogun State Police Command has announced restrictions on both human and vehicular movement between 12 midnight and 6pm in the state for the presidential and national assembly elections.
The police said security aides attached to public officeholders are not allowed to escort their principals to polling units.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said this in a statement on Friday, in Abeokuta.
Oyeyemi added that the restriction order affects the state-owned security outfits during the election.
The statement read, “In view of the Presidential and National Assembly elections slated to take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, the Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that there is going to be restriction of human and vehicular movements on the road and waterways across the state, starting from 12 midnight to 6pm on Saturday.
“The restriction of movement is in line with the directives of Inspector General of Police Usman Baba, which is aimed at ensuring peaceful conduct of the election.
“In the same vein, security aides attached to public office holders are not allowed to escort their principals to polling stations and collation centres armed, and no state-owned security outfit will be allowed to participate in providing security during the conduct of the election.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, has enjoined the law-abiding citizens of the state to go out en masse and cast their vote for the candidate of their choice, as robust security arrangement has been put in place to ensure that the election is conducted under a very peaceful atmosphere.
