Osimhen’s brace gets champions, Napoli to near-perfect Serie A start
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scored a brace to get Napoli’s Scudetto title defence to a winning start beating newly promoted, Frosinone 3-1 at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Saturday.
Osimhen’s 26 goals were instrumental in Napoli claiming the Serie A title for the first in over 3 decades last season and he has picked up from where he left off this term in new manager, Rudi Garcia’s first league game.
On the opening day of a new Serie A season, the Super Eagles striker wasted no time in opening his account, first slamming home a shot in after 42 minutes to put the Pertenopei 2-1 ahead after Matteo Politano had gotten the team back from an early spot-kick goal by Frosinone’s Abdou Harroui.
The Nigerian was on hand to complete the win eleven minutes before regular time. Sent through on goal by a Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s pass, he placed low a precise shot past Stefano Turati in Frosinone’s goal to make it 3-1.
