Police cyber centre arrests 18-year-old, another for identity theft
The Nigeria Police Force has arrest two suspects, Chinonso Eze and Victory Ebomuche, for criminal conspiracy, identity theft, and computer-related fraud.
The suspects, aged 18 and 24 respectively, were arrested at their residence on Agua Marina Estate, Apo, FCT Abuja.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that a dedicated team of police investigators from Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center “meticulously gathered evidence and conducted comprehensive inquiries, resulting in the apprehension of these suspects.”
Adejobi added, “This operation exposed a complex web of cybercriminal activities, primarily revolving around romance scams and fraudulent online investments.
“Such activities not only exploit individuals but also pose a significant threat to our nation’s cybersecurity. As part of our ongoing efforts, we have identified potential victims associated with the suspects and are actively working to mitigate both immediate and remote cyber threats.”
The FPRO said the Inspector General of Police commended the Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center, DCP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, adding that the case underscore the critical importance of vigilance and caution when engaging in online interactions.
“He urged the global cyber community to verify the authenticity of online acquaintances, exercise discretion in financial engagements, and promptly report any suspicious online activity to the authorities,” the statement added.
Adejobi added that on the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects would be charged to court.
