Ayedatiwa says Ondo will pay N73,000 minimum wage from November

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has announced that the state government will begin implementing a minimum wage of N73,000 for civil servants in the state this November.

Recall that the Federal Government commenced payment of the N70,000 new salary and its consequential adjustments to public servants across all levels of federal civil service in September.

Aiyedatiwa made the announcement on Friday during the 2024 Public Service Week celebration, an event marked by a fitness walk aimed at promoting the health and well-being of public workers.

In his address to the workers, the governor stressed that the welfare of civil servants would continue to be a priority for his administration, adding that the new minimum wage was a settled matter and a testament to his administration’s focus on improving the quality of life for the state’s workforce.

He said, “A committee was set up to work out the implementation structure of the minimum wage, and now that it has just been concluded, I will give the necessary approval for the payment of N73,000 to begin.

“Anything we have done for civil servants has never been politically driven. If workers are not happy, they won’t be encouraged to put maximum effort into their work. That is why we have always prioritised their welfare. We shall begin the payment of the new minimum.”

In his remarks, the state Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philips, commended Aiyedatiwa for creating a conducive environment for civil servants in the state.

The state Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Clement Fatuwase, expressed confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s continued support for civil servants and assured him that the civil servants in the state would proudly come forward after the November 16 governorship election to celebrate his victory.
