The Ondo State owned University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) and the intitution’s Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have locked horns over alleged financial recklessness.

According to the union, the management allocated over N65 million for the university’s 10th-anniversary celebration, neglecting their demands which include, unpaid arrears of over 12 months’ remittance of members of PFAs, non-payment of 18 months’ arrears of January 2023 wage award, and non-payment of 105 months’ arrears of Responsibility Allowance.

They described the management’s decision as insensitive and ill-advised.

The union’s chairman, Comrade Oluwaseyi Abayomi, in a communique after their Congress, called on the university management, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, to urgently cut costs on frivolities and focus on more pressing staff demands.

Abayomi said they were ready to explore legal options should their demands remain unmet.
