The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately.

Premium Times reports that Ganduje cited health reasons for his decision, stating that he needed to focus on his well-being.

Recently, he was enmeshed in a succession controversy when the name of the Vice President, Shettima was conspicuously omitted from the endorsement of President Tinubu’s second term bid organised by APC’s northeast caucus.

This fueled speculation that Tinubu might choose another politician as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was elected APC National Chairman in August 2023, amidst internal party conflicts.

While Ganduje’s resignation letter attributed his decision to health concerns, it is probable that political tension within the party might have also played a role in his decision to step down.

Allegations of financial impropriety have also been linked to his resignation, with some party members reportedly protesting “excessive financial demands” imposed by his office, the PT report said.

The APC has yet to issue an official statement on his resignation.
