Chelsea scored a last-minute leveller to steal a point against Manchester City in their 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Man City were made to rue missed chances in the English Premier League (EPL) encounter, as Enzo Fernandez nullified Tijjani Reijnders’ first-half opener.

Managerless Chelsea were defensive in the opening minutes, leading to a subdued half that came to life in the latter stages. Erling Haaland stepped up with two opportunities; his deflected shot was tipped around the post by goalkeeper Filip Jorgenson, before his curling shot rattled the post.

Reijnders eventually broke the deadlock with an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net after latching on to a loose pass meant for Haaland.

Chelsea improved in the second half, but Pedro Neto fired over the bar from 12 yards, while Gianluigi Donnarumma saved substitute Liam Delap’s effort.

Manchester City have claimed maximum points in the last 11 EPL matches they have taken the lead, but Chelsea ended the run with an equaliser four minutes into added time.

Fernandez was the goalscorer. The midfielder toe-poked the ball beyond Donnarumma at the second attempt to break City hearts for 1-1 at full-time.

The draw ended Man City’s three-match winning streak against Chelsea, who remain winless in 12 matches when facing the Cityzens in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola’s side returned to second place in the EPL standings with a better goal difference ahead of third-placed Aston Villa, as Arsenal retained their six-point advantage at the top after 20 matches.

In other matches, Leeds United made it seven matches unbeaten with a 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United, while Fulham scored a last-minute equaliser to deny Liverpool maximum points in a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage, as the Reds dropped points in consecutive matches.

Newcastle United, however, defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 for consecutive wins.
