The Awujale Kingmakers Council has cancelled the planned meet-and-greet earlier slated to hold at the Aafin Awujale on Wednesday (today).

Instead the council directed that the nominees for Awujale Royal stool report to immediately the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Ijebu-Ode.

According to the new twist in the installation of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, all Awujale nominees are required to present themselves at the DSS office located along NTA Road.

The council was said to have communication the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi; his deputy, Otunba Dokun Ajidagba; and the Vice Chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf.

The council stated that the DSS involvement led to the cancellation of the greet-and-meet.

The statement reads partly, “We write to formally inform you that the meet-and-greet earlier scheduled for this morning at the Aafin Awujale has been cancelled.

“Accordingly, the Awujale nominees are hereby directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office.”

The Awujale’s stool has been a contentious issue since the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona in 2025.

The Fusengbuwa ruling house on Monday submitted the names of princes and one princess qualified to ascend the throne for consideration to the kingmakers.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State government again directed that the selection process to fill the vacant stool of the Awujale be stopped until further notice.

The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, said the selection process was halted due to the flood of petitions received from security agencies and other stakeholders.
