ICPC takes El-Rufai into custody after EFCC sets him free

The former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, was, on Wednesday, released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He was, however, reportedly taken into custody by the operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and Other Related Offences Commission.

“We have released him today, but he was shortly picked up after he was released by ICPC,” a source at the EFCC said.

The ICPC in a statement on Thursday said the commission had the former Kaduna State governor.

The statement by Okor Odey, Head Media and Public Communications. Reads, “The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to state  that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai the former Governor of Kaduna state is in our custody as at close of work on Wednesday the 18th day of February, 2026.   Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations.”
