Petrol tanker loses control, kills six

A petrol-laden tanker has lost control and killed no fewer than six persons.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The truck, reportedly carrying about 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, also destroyed at least five tricycles during the incident, while several other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The accident occurred precisely at the Fruits Market along the Oje–Beere route in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses stated that the driver lost control at the Beere end of the road and rammed into two tricycles, killing passengers before heading towards the Oje market, where more victims were reportedly struck.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that the exact number of casualties was still being determined.
