Hafsat Yusuf, a woman who delivered quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, on Wednesday has died hours after the childbirth.

She reportedly died about 24 hours after she was delivered of the five babies -three boys and two girls.

Her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed the development on Thursday morning.

Nafiu stated that she died at the facility around 1am, hours after the birth of the children.

Despite the loss of their mother, all five newborns are reportedly alive and remain under medical observation at the hospital.

Hafsat, who was marking her ninth childbirth, delivered the infants via Caesarean section on Wednesday afternoon.

Her husband, a local tricycle rider, had initially expressed immense gratitude for the successful delivery before the sudden turn.

Although, the specific medical circumstances leading to her death were not immediately detailed, the Kano State government has stepped in to ensure the survival of the infants.

The Ministry of Health announced that it will take full responsibility for the healthcare and well-being of the quintuplets, framing the intervention as part of a broader commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.
