The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday paraded 47 suspected criminals and displayed a significant cache of arms, with the state’s new Commissioner of Police, Mr Tijani Fatai, saying that Lagos state is now a no-go area for perpetrators of violence.

The CP spoke during his first major briefing since taking the helm of the state’s security apparatus.

Tijani displayed exhibits recovered from suspects, including 14 firearms, over 100 rounds of live ammunition, and 14 stolen vehicles.

The CP attributed the successes to a shift toward intelligence-led policing and deeper community integration.

He said, “It is with a great sense of professional fulfilment that I stand before you today. These arrests and recoveries are outcomes of deliberate, intelligence-led strategies and community partnership, emplaced by the Command to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State.”

Tijani said his officers arrested 47 suspects linked to various offences, including armed robbery, cultism, conspiracy, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Among the seized items were 10 locally-made guns, four pump-action rifles, and a significant quantity of 5.2mm live ammunition.

The Commissioner noted that the Command’s proactive deployment at worship centres, recreational venues, and highways resulted in a peaceful environment for the public.

“The Command recorded no major security breach during Easter period, a testament to our preparedness, vigilance, and collaboration with other security agencies and law-abiding residents,” Fatai added.

He promised that the current momentum would not only be sustained but intensified. He emphasised that visibility policing would remain a cornerstone of his strategy to deter criminal elements.

Aside from the recovered weapons, the Command displayed 29 mobile phones, two laptops, and other incriminating items recovered from various crime scenes.
