Police scatter initiation rites in Delta, arrest suspected cultists

Police operatives serving in the Delta State Police Command have disrupted cult initiation rites, and arrested four suspected cultists in the state.

The cops also recovered guns and hard drugs from the hoodlums.

The command said that on April 11, 2026, operatives of Delta Shield on surveillance patrol in Orerokpe in the Okpe Local Government Area, intercepted one Peter Onajite, aged 32 years.

“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally-made double barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, as well as sachets of suspected Tramadol.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of Juris Confraternity, a statement by the  spokesman for Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, explained.

He added that the suspect is currently in custody, while investigation is ongoing.

The PPRO added that in another development on April 12, 2026, the police got a report of suspected cult initiation involving one Chinedu Onyeama (now at large) and members of a cult known as Aiye.

He said operatives attached to Ibusa Police Station mobilised to Jordan Road, Ibusa, venue is the initiation.

“The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female.

“A search conducted on the premises resulted in the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and 39 fire lighters.

“The suspects are in presently custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects,” the PPRO said.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response.
