Dino Melaye, a former Kogi senator, says he will defeat President Bola Tinubu in a free and fair election.

Speaking in an interview on the “Mic On podcast” hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, a journalist with Channels Television, Melaye said Tinubu is currently the “most unpopular” politician in the country.

The former senator said Tinubu does not want an electoral contest but desires a “coronation” of him as the next president.

Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said any of the party’s presidential hopefuls will do better than Tinubu as a president.

“Any person among those interested in the presidency in ADC will do one million times better than Tinubu. There can never be a worse president than Tinubu,” he said.

“Let’s go on a free and fair election. Today, Bola Tinubu is the most unpopular politician in Nigeria. I will beat him flat. He won’t even stand up.

“Let him allow a free and fair contest. If he does not allow it. We will make him conduct an election because he does not want an election.

“He wants to be Kabiyesi and Igwe. We won’t allow that to happen in Nigeria.”

Melaye contested the November 2023 Kogi governorship election. He came a distant third.

Usman Ododo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 446, 237 votes to defeat Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who came second with 259,052 votes.

Melaye, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 46,362 votes.
