Some gunmen on Saturday invaded Oruku community in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing the President-General of the town union, Chief Linus Nwatu.
The attack makes it the eighth time that prominent residents of the community that have been killed by gunmen suspected to be cultists from eighbouring community, Umuode.
A source to our correspondent that Nwatu, a retired police officer, was shot dead in the early morning of Saturday after the gunmen broke into his house where he was with his family members.
The source said, “The President-General was killed today; the day that we havescheduled to bury a member of the town’s neighbourhood watch, Mr Dennis Ike (Peace), who was shot dead by gunmen in the town on June 6, 2022.”
Recall that The PUNCH had reported how the gunmen ambushed and killed Ike, who was riding motorcycle at the time.
The hoodlums had, after killing him, set his corpse and motorcycle ablaze before proceeding to torch some houses in the community.
