Masqueraders attack Plateau church, flog members, pastor

Some masqueraders on Sunday attacked a church in Shikal village in the Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The masqueraders were saud to have flogged flogging worshipers, as well as the Pastor, who was leading the service.

Apart from flogging the worshippers and the Pastor and bringing the Sunday service to an abrupt end, the masqueraders also destroyed the church’s musical equipment.

Witnesses said the masqueraders arrived at the church while service was ongoing.

One of the said, “The church members were awe-stricken over the action of the masquerades. They did not fight back, they just gathered to salvage what was left of their properties.”

Elders of the village are said to be making efforts to get to the root of the matter in order to restore normalcy.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area has confirmed that it is true, they are working on the situation and the area is calm. He said masquerades went to a Church and disrupted their activities. The investigation is ongoing, we will give full details when we have them.”
