Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano state, is set to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday (today).

On Friday, the Kano governor resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) along with 21 members of the state house of assembly, eight members of the house of representatives, and all 44 LGA chairpersons in the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Bature Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, said Yusuf’s political journey across different platforms, including his recent stint in the NNPP, informed his decision to return to what he described as a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.

According to Tofa, Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014 after winning the party’s primary election for the Kano central senatorial seat and later conceded the position to Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of the state.

He said the governor believes rejoining the APC would strengthen collaboration with the federal government, adding that Yusuf also expects improved security coordination, faster infrastructural development and better service delivery across Kano.

He said the move is aimed at consolidating political stability and unity in the state.

He added that the governor will formally register as an APC member in Kano on Monday alongside 22 members of the state house of assembly, eight members of the house of representatives and the 44 LG chairmen.

The governor is also expected to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano state.
