The national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has stepped down and announced that former Senate President, David Mark, will be the new interim national chairman.

He also announced that former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, will be the national secretary of the party.

The founding chairman of the ADC spoke on Wednesday at the at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja where key figures from Nigeria’s major opposition parties had gathered for a high-level meeting aimed at unifying efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Nwosu stated that the journey spanned over 18 months and involved 12 meetings of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) convened by the coalition’s leadership.

“We all decided to resign so that Mark, Aregbesola and others can lead us to the Villa.

“We also approved Mark as National Chairman and Aregbesola as the National Secretary of the party. When you look at the two of them and their commitment to this country, you’ll see that this is a new beginning. They will reposition the party and Nigeria,” Nwosu added.

In attendance were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and other leaders.

Several other politicians from the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Labour Party were also in attendance.
