Admit only 18 years, above to varsities, Poly, others, FG tells JAMB
The Federal Government has announced that only candidates who are 18 years old and above will be admitted to tertiary institutions from this year.
It instructed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board to ensure that only students above 18 are henceforth admitted into tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman stated this on Thursday in Abuja at the ongoing policy meeting.
According to the Minister, this decision is in line with Nigeria’s law, which prohibits the admission of underage students to tertiary institutions.
He emphasized that no one should recommend anyone less than 18 years old for admission, stressing that this guideline must be strictly followed.
According to Prof Mamman, underage students are responsible for some of the problems in Nigeria’s higher institutions.
