AFCON: Nigeria beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties to win bronze

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties to win the Bronze of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
The tightly contested third-place match in Casablanca produced few clear chances as both sides struggled to break each other down across 90 minutes.
Nigeria pressed higher in the second half and came close to a goal, but Egypt’s defence held firm to force a shootout.
In the penalty decider, the Super Eagles showed greater composure from the spot, converting four of their kicks while Egypt missed twice.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the hero of the night as he saved two crucial shots during the shootout, including one from Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.
Ademola Lookman converted the decisive penalty to secure the bronze medal, Nigeria’s ninth third-place finish in AFCON history.
