Aiyedatiwa sworn in as Ondo governor, gives first speech
Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been sworn in as the new governor of Ondo State.
Recall that the former governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, died earlier on Wednesday.
The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola sworn in Aiyedatiwa at the governor’s office in Akure at exactly 4.15pm
Present at the ceremony were the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, members of the assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu and the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ade Adetimehin, among others.
In his first speech as the governor, Aiyedatiwa said it was with a heavy heart he took over the reins of the governance of the state after the death of Akeredolu.
He described the death of Akeredolu as unfortunate.
Aiyedatiwa said, “The death of our governor and leader was a devastating shock to the people of the Ondo State. It’s a colossal loss to the state and Nigeria.”
He condoled with the governor’s family, the traditional ruler of Owo and the people of the state.
The new governor said the people of the South-West would be grateful to late Akeredolu for the establishment of Amotekun which has reduced the menace of banditry, kidnapping and other criminality in the region.
Aiyedatiwa promised to complete all ongoing projects left behind by the late former governor.
