The Vetland Grammar School Old Students Association (VETOSAN) 03 Set has successfully concluded the maiden edition of its Vocational Training Programme on the premises of the school at Oko-Oba, Agege.

The six-day event, which featured three days a week, commencing from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 8, 2025, attracted over 130 junior and senior secondary school students eager to acquire hands-on skills alongside their formal education.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Vocational Skills Training Committee on Tuesday.

The statement said that from the opening day’s 109 participants to the final day’s impressive turnout, the programme demonstrated its strong appeal and transformative potential.

Participants were said to have received practical training in Baking, Fashion Designing, Photography, Architecture, Shoemaking, and Plumbing.

According to the committee, sessions were led by experienced facilitators and enriched by motivational engagements from alumni, education officials, and former teachers.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Education, District 1, lent its full support, with Mrs Akinfolarin on behalf of the ministry, visiting on multiple occasion. She commended the organization and quality of training, urging students to remain committed to developing their skills.

“The school principals, guidance counsellors, and alumni also attended, offering words of encouragement and reinforcing the importance of vocational competence in building self-reliance,” the statement said.

The grand finale on Day 6 reportedly featured certificate presentations, with some students sharing glowing feedback on their experiences.

“I never knew I could make a dress on my own until this week,” said Onakoya David, JSS2.

Eniola Grace Ayoola JSS2 in the baking class also said, “I can now bake and decorate a cake without fear. I feel ready to start my own small business.”

Another student, Adeyemi Mariam Jss 2, from the photography department remarked, “I learned skills I never thought I’d understand, and I want to keep practicing even after school.”

In her closing remarks, Vice Chair of the set, Mrs. Bernice Aganoke Osai urged students to keep practicing the skills they had learned, noting that the real success of the programme would be measured by the application of these skills beyond the training period.

With its successful debut, the VETOSAN 03 Set has made history in Vetland Grammar School and also laid the foundation for a tradition that promises to empower future generations through vocational education.
