Amid ASUU strike, Osun Assembly passes Ilesa varsity bill into law
Osun State House of Assembly has passed the bill for the upgrade of Ilesa College of Education into a full-fledged university into law.
Speaker Timothy Owoeye, who sponsored the University of Ilesa Establishment Bill 2022, said, ”Governor Adegboyega Oyetola can now go ahead and appoint a working committee for the take-off of the university.”
Oyetola had in March announced the upgrade of the College of Education, Ilesa to a full-fledged university.
A statement by an aide to the speaker, Kunle Alabi, said the bill was passed into law yesterday.
He said, “Now that the bill has been passed into law, the governor may appoint a working committee to see to the making of the university anytime from now.”
Osun State is also the proprietor of the multi-campus Osun State University.
Until recently, the state and Oyo were the joint-owner of the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Recall that that the Academic Staff Union of Universities on February 14, 2022, embarked on the industrial action over what the union described as the failure of the government to address some of its demands.
