Some hoodlums early on Wednesday attacked the office of Independent National Electoral Commission in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The men, who reportedly burnt the commission’s office, using Improvised Explosive Devise, killed a boy, while another person, a female, sustained injury.
The gunmen also attacked a police station in Nnobi, in the same local government area, and a residential building inside the station, where the boy was killed.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said the attack happened around 1.45 am on Wednesday, adding that the attackers came in in four Toyota Sienna vehicles.
The statement reads partly, “Anambra State Police Command today, February 1, 2023 reinforced security deployment in the state, following an attack on the INEC office in Idemili South, Ojoto and Nnobi Police Station.
“The hoodlums came in a large number by 1.45am, with four unmarked Sienna vehicles, armed with IEDs, Petrol bombs and other explosives.
“They invaded the INEC office, the police station and the residential building in the station. Unfortunately, one boy aged 16, a relative of a serving policeman in the station, was murdered by the armed men, while another 15-year-old girl sustained a gunshot injury. She has been taken to the hospital where she is receiving treatment.”
