The Anambra State government has announced restriction of movement across the state for the local government elections scheduled for Saturday.

A statement on Friday by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, said the restriction would be from 8am to 4pm on Saturday.

Mefor said the measure is intended to ensure a smooth local government election in the state.

He said, “Ndi Anambra are hereby informed that there will be a restriction of movement throughout Anambra State on Saturday, 28th September 2024, from 8 am to 4 pm, as requested by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission.

“The restriction order is to ensure a peaceful and smooth exercise during the Anambra State Local Government Council Election.”

“Those exempted include individuals on election duties and essential services such as ANSIEC officials, electoral observers, accredited journalists, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, etc.”

He advised everyone to comply fully with the order in the interest of peace, warning that failure would incur legal consequences.
