APC candidates win all 23 LGA chairmanship posts, 276 councillorship in Benue
The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), on Sunday declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress as winners of the local government elections held on Saturday in the state.
Announcing the results at BSIEC headquarters in Makurdi around 8am, the Chairman of the Commission, Richard Tombowua, said the APC won all 23 Local Government Area chairmanship positions and secured all 276 councilorship seats in the state.
He explained that the electoral process started in August 9th when the date for elections was announced and eight political parties indicated interest to participate in the exercise.
Tombowua stated that at the field across the 23 Local Government Areas, only five political parties including APC, APM, PDP, SDP, and Labour party participated in the exercise.
He said there was no case of ballot papers snatching, rigging and no record of electoral violence across the local government areas.
The Chairman commended political parties for their commitment to a peaceful election, which he said did not record any casualty.
He also commended the people of Benue State for trooping out en masse to exercise their civic rights.
He further appreciated security agencies for ensuring peace and orderliness throughout the voting process and thanked the media for their support in giving adequate coverage to the exercise.
In his remark, Chairman Labour Party Benue State, Comrade Ibrahim Otene, thanked the Commission for organizing free and credible elections.
Otene who is the State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, said even though, there were little hitches here and there, the election was peacefully conducted as there was no violence across the state.
On his part, the Benue State APC caretaker committee chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale commended Governor Hyacinth Alia and the BSIEC for their commitment towards this election.
He expressed satisfaction with the exercise saying that it was a good thing his party won all the 23 LG Chairmanship seats and the councilorship positions in the state.
