Bayelsa to swear in deputy gov- designate Wednesday

The Bayelsa State Government has announced that Pastor Peter Akpe will be sworn in as the state’s new Deputy Governor on Wednesday .

Until his appointment, Akpe served as the Chief of Staff to Governor Duoye Diri.

The assembly confirmed Akpe’s appointment during its plenary session on Tuesday morning,February 24.

Akpe’s nomination comes after the sudden demise of the former deputy governor of the state, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who slumped and passed away inside his office on December 11, 2025.

In internal memo from the government to senior officials announced government’s plan, with the instruction that all invitees should seated by 11.39am, while the swearing in will take place by 12 noon.

The memo unveiled plan that the occasion will also be used to swear in a commissioner, as well as some Permanent Secretaries.

The venue is the Exco Chamber in the Government House.

Akpe, also a former Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, hails from Ebedebiri community in the Sagbama Local Government Area, the same area as his predecessor.
His appointment marks a key leadership transition, with Akpe bringing administrative experience and educational expertise to the role.
