Biden thanks supporters for ‘love and support’ after prostate cancer diagnosis

Former President Joe Biden has thanked supporters for lifting him and his wife “up with love” in his first public message since being diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” Biden posted on social media on May 19.

The post includes a smiling picture of Biden with his wife, Jill Biden, and a cat.

US Today reports that a Biden spokesperson announced May 18 that the former president has prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

Biden, 82, was diagnosed on May 16 after “experiencing urinary symptoms,” and a “nodule” was discovered on his prostate, according to the statement.

Messages of support have poured in for Biden from across the political spectrum since his diagnosis, with everyone from President Donald Trump to former President Barack Obama wishing him well.

Biden was president from 2021 to 2025. He dropped out of the 2024 presidential race under pressure amid questions about his age and mental acuity.
