BRT bus, truck fall on Lagos roads, 10 injured
A fully loaded high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle overturned inside the dedicated BRT lane at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, resulting in injuries to 10 passengers.
According to an update from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident occurred shortly after the bus had departed from the BRT Park at Iyana Ipaja.
The agency said the bus ran into an abandoned pedestrian bridge foot immediately after the Iyana Ipaja bridge, causing it to tip over onto its side.
The authorities have confirmed that all 10 victims have received necessary medical attention.
LASTMA officials reportedly manage the situation and ensured that the victims were promptly taken care of.
The accident has caused significant disruption to traffic in the area, with efforts underway to clear the lane and restore normal traffic flow.
Motorists and commuters were advised to exercise caution and follow traffic directives as authorities work to resolve the situation.
LASTMA said, “A fully loaded high-capacity bus fell on its side inside the dedicated lane (BRT lane) with a record of 10 casualties (Victims), which they were taken care of.”
Meanwhile, the agency also reported that another loaded truck fell at Durbar Junction on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, completely blocking the road inward to Alakija.
The accident has caused significant traffic disruption, with authorities diverting vehicles through the service lane from Orile heading towards Durbar.
Motorists are advised to follow the diversion and exercise patience as efforts are underway to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow
LASTMA post reads, “#LagBadgryExp #DurbarJunction #AccidentReport There is a fallen loaded truck at Durbar junction inward Alakija that took 100% of the road.
“Traffic has been diverted through the service lane from Orile heading towards Durbar.
“Effort is ongoing to evacuate it from the road and our men are firmly in position to monitor the situation.
“Transloading of contents in the fallen truck is currently ongoing. We apologize for the inconvenience. LASTMAcares!”
Also, there was a road crash involving two vehicles that occurred opposite Northwest, heading inward Ajah.
LASTMA attributed the accident to over-speeding, resulting in one injured victim.
