Car driver crushes four passengers waiting for bus, mob burns vehicle

Angry mob on Sunday set fire to a Toyota Camry which killed four persons on the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway in Delta State.

It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle and one other person in the car escaped death, but the mob burned the car, accusing the driver of recklessness.

Witnesses at the scene of the incident said the two occupants were suspected to the Internet fraudsters, aka Yahoo boys, adding that the one that drove the car was speeding.

One of them said, “The victims were along expressway waiting for bus when the Toyota Camry lost control and crush about four of them to death; others sustained injuries.

“Three men and a lady died on the spot; and in that confusion, the driver and his friend took to their heels.

“The youths in the area got angry and set the car ablaze. We suspected they are yahoo boys.”

The incident was said to have caused traffic jam on the expressway.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The accident occurred on the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway and four persons died.”
