The Lagos State Government has assured residents of hitch-free movement during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
A statement on Monday from the government said the gridlock on the Long Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which had cripple businesses and movement in the past few months due to the reconstruction of the road, would cease during yuletide.
It said it had reach an agreement with the contractor, Julius Berger, to cease work at the end of November so that movement would improve during yuletide.
It added that work would resume in January.
The statement reads, “At the last meeting held with officials of the Federal Ministry of Work & Housing, Julius Berger and critical stakeholders, it was agreed that work would be suspended on the road at the end of November 2022 to ease the gridlock towards Christmas preparation.
“In compliance with the resolution, barricades narrowing access and smooth vehicular transition are being removed except in few meters where it may be unsafe to do so due to undulation on ongoing paths.
“Meanwhile, works had been scheduled to be recommenced in January 2023 so as to meet the deadline on completion.
“We urge our residents and other road users to drive safely as the road become free of encumbrance we had hitherto encountered in past months.
“Wishing you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.”
