Dabiri-Erewa commends Nigerians in Canada, urges them to invest in homeland
Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has commended the Speaker of the Alberta Legislature, Nathan Cooper, for recognising and appreciating the Nigerian Community’s progressive impact in Alberta and Canada in general.
In a statement by Gabriel Odu,, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa also praised the Nigerian community for their contributions to Alberta, noting how they had become good ambassadors of Nigeria.
Dabiri-Erwa said, “The Nigerian community in Alberta has shown that beyond numbers, they are progressive, hardworking, and contribute significantly to the province’s growth.”
She encouraged Cooper to visit Nigeria, highlighting the importance of fostering closer ties between both regions,
“Nigeria is full of opportunities and possibilities. I invite you to experience the real Nigeria, a country with resilience, rich culture, and immense economic potential,” she added.
The NIDCOM boss urged Nigerians in Alberta to invest in their homeland, reinforcing the need for stronger economic partnerships between Nigeria and its diaspora,
She said, “By investing back home, we build bridges that foster growth and prosperity for both Nigeria and its diaspora.”
Cooper appreciated the Nigerian community, emphasising Alberta’s shared values of family, hard work, and compassion.
He noted that Nigerians play essential roles in education, social work, and legal services, adding, “Nigerian leadership in various sectors across Alberta showcases their good nature and strengthens the bond between our jurisdictions.”
Cooper, who also took the delegation round a tour of the Parliament, highlighted the importance of partnership, stating that the relationship between Alberta and the Nigerian community was fundamental to the province’s values and future development.
Present at the Meeting were Kelechi (Kaycee) Madu, former Deputy Premier of Alberta; Jibola Abitoye, Councillor, City of Fort; Funke Olokude, (NCA), Edmonton; Denrele Yusuf, a renowned banking professional in Calgary.
