The African Democratic Congress has said no fewer that 500,000 Nigerians have joined the party after the Independent National Electoral Commission withdrew its recognition for the David Mark-led leadership.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this in a series of posts on his X handle, attributing the sudden spike in membership to heightened public interest triggered by the electoral commission’s announcement.
According to Abdullahi, the party recorded over 40,000 new registrations within just 12 hours of INEC’s statement, which was released on April 1.
He added that the figure rose dramatically to over half a million within 22 hours.
“Between 7pm on April 1st, when INEC released its statement, and 5pm today, over half a million (500,000) new Nigerians have joined the ADC,” Abdullahi said.
The party spokesman suggested that the development reflects growing public support and sympathy for the ADC following the electoral commission’s action, which has continued to generate reactions within political circles.
The claim has, however, yet to be independently verified.
