Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced that he is withdrawing his custody case, clarifying that his intention was never to seek full custody of his daughter but rather a joint arrangement.

The case involves Imade Adeleke, his daughter with Sophia Momodu.

David and Sophia dated in 2015 and welcomed the arrival of Imade on May 14, 2015.

In 2024, the Afrobeats star filed a motion at the Lagos high court, seeking the court’s order granting him “unrestricted access” to Imade.

In her response to the lawsuit, Sophia argued that she has never denied Davido access to their daughter.

In a series of posts on his X account on Friday, the singer addressed the narrative surrounding the legal battle, revealing that he never asked for full custody of Imade.

He questioned why some individuals were celebrating the outcome of a recent court sitting, emphasising that there was no winner in the situation.

“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody,” he wrote.

“Nobody won, nobody lost… so I don’t know why some people are celebrating… there’s nothing to celebrate.”

Davido explained that his decision to drop the case came after a moment in court he found deeply inappropriate.

The singer said while confident in his legal arguments, the proceedings took a painful turn when the opposition resorted to what he described as a “low blow”.

“I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the courtroom… she would get so frustrated… until she brought out her last card — my deceased son. That’s a no no! Lowest blow!” he revealed.

Davido and Chioma Adeleke, his wife, welcomed the arrival of their twins in October 2023 in the United States. The twins’ birth came a year after the death of their first child Ifeanyi Adeleke.

In the tweet, the award-winning artiste added that despite ending the legal fight, his daughter would one day understand his efforts.

“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on. One love,” he concluded.

In 2023, Sophia had revealed plans to change Imade’s surname to hers, claiming she has been both mother and father to her.
