Depressed 19-year-old man hangs self after death of mum

A 19-year-old man, Sunday Moses, has committed suicide in Afio village, in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The young man’s body was found hanging himself from a tree. Moses’ lifeless body was discovered in a secluded rocky area of the village.

Residents said the secondary school leaver had informed his 47-year-old brother that he was going to find a spot with better network reception to make a phone call.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated on Thursday that Moses was found by his brother, John Egbe, after several hours of searching for him.

Investigations revealed that Moses had recently lost his mother, who had yet to be buried in their hometown of Oju, Benue State.

She said, “The deceased left his home in Ogungbade village early on February 10, 2025, in search of better network service. When he failed to return, his elder brother, John Egbe, became worried and traced him to the location, where he made the devastating discovery.”

Upon receiving the report, detectives were deployed to the scene, and photographs were taken.

Odutola confirmed that investigations were ongoing, and the corpse released to the family for burial according to traditional rites.
