D’Tigress devour Mali to win 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Women Championship

Nigeria’s Women National Basketball team, D’Tigress have won the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Women Championship by defeating their Malian counterparts by 78-64 baskets.

D’Tigress won the FIBA AfroBasket Women Championship for the fifth time in a row, first by any African nation.

In the final played on Sunday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, D’Tigress won their fifth title in a row and seventh overall.

Despite trailing Senegal which has won 11 titles by four, Nigeria made history becoming the first team to win the continental title five times in a row.

Nigeria lost the first quarter 21-22 but rallied to win the second quarter but ended the first half 41-41.

D’Tigress surged ahead winning the third quarter leading 61-57 and consolidated on their lead to eventually win the match the title 78-64.

D’Tigress secured the sole automatic ticket for the FIBA World Cup coming up next year while Mali joined South Sudan and Senegal to compete for World Cup qualifying ticket.
