The police have invited the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi for questioning in over an incident that occurred during the Eid -el – Fitr celebrations.

The development follows the arrest of 20-year-old Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters by the Kano State Police Command.

Sagiru was suspected to have been involved in the killing and assault of vigilante members who were part of the Emir’s entourage after Eid prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The police subsequently started investigation into the incident  and extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku.

According to an official letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, the invitation to the Emir was issued on the directive of the Inspector General of Police.

The letter requests Emir Sanusi to report to the Force Intelligence Department Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10am.

Recall that the police had banned Durbar processions during the Sallah period, citing security concerns and the potential for unrest.

Despite the advisory, Emir Sanusi reportedly proceeded with traditional Durbar festivities, which attracted large crowds and widespread media attention, including a symbolic visit to the Government House.
