The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure, in Kano.

Recall that Kazaure once represented Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa and Yankwashi federal constituency in the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2023.

Gudaji Kazaure is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been vocal on various issues, including insecurity and corruption allegations against the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Recall also that on 17 December, 2022, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) denied allegations made by Kazaure, that N89.09 trillion in stamp duty collections had been diverted and that the then CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, kept $171 billion in the bank’s private investors’ account as proceeds of stamp duty.

It was gathered on that Kazaure was invited to the EFCC office in Kano, where he presented himself, only to be arrested and subsequently flown to Abuja on Wednesday in the evening.

The reasons behind his invitation and arrest are yet to be disclosed, with speculation rampant about the circumstances surrounding his detention.

As at the time of this report, the EFCC has not provided any official statement on the matter.

However, efforts to reach out to the EFCC spokesperson in Kano proved abortive as the spokesperson’s phone remained unreachable, despite several attempts.
