El Clasico: Bellingham scores brace as Madrid defeat Barcelona
Jude Bellingham scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the first El Clasico showdown of the season.
The Merengues came from a goal behind to nick three points from their arch-rivals on Saturday.
It took just six minutes for Barcelona to take the lead in front of a cheering home crowd at their makeshift stadium.
Ikay Gundogan slotted home his first goal for the club after pouncing on a poor clearance to put Barcelona ahead.
While the home side continued to dominate the proceedings, the visitors improved in the second half but required Bellingham to provide inspiration.
The 20-year-old English midfielder dragged Real Madrid level with an emphatic 30-yard strike.
He completed the turnaround with a stabbed-in effort in added time as Real Madrid opened up a four-point gap ahead of Barcelona.
Bellingham joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for £88.5million in June. He has scored 13 goals in the 13 matches played for the Merengues this season.
The victory sees Real Madrid regain the top spot in the league on goal difference, with the capital city side and Girona both on 28 points after 11 games.
