The Federal Government is planning to establish an anti-riot police unit and construct police barracks in the conflict-prone community of the Guri Local Government Area.

This disclosed by Senator Abdulhamid Malam-Madori, representing Jigawa Northeast Senatorial District, during the 7th episode of the Government and Citizens Engagement programme held on Sunday in Guri town.

The Government and Citizens Engagement programme was initiated by Jigawa State Government to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among citizens, while also providing a platform for the government to engage with the people, listen to their concerns, and address their needs.

This platform allows officials to highlight their achievements and outline future plans, thereby promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

The programme aims to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in governance, and to ensure that the government remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of its citizens.

According to the Senator during the event, the plan by the FG is aimed at curbing the periodic conflicts between farmers and herders in the area, which have been a recurring challenge to peace and security.

The construction of police barracks and establishment of the anti-riot unit is expected to enhance security and promote stability in the area.

Malam-Madori said, “To address this, Federal Government in collaboration with the state government will construct a modern police station and provide necessary security facilities.”

“Guri is a fertile area with high potential for farming and herding, which often leads to conflicts between the two groups.”

Malam-Madori noted that the establishment of the Anti-Riot Police unit and construction of police barracks is expected to strengthen the security and maintaining peace and unity in Guri and environs.

The Senator also announced the construction of a modern stadium in Guri, equipped with a big visual screen for watching football matches.

“This is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to promote sports development in the area,” he added.

Malam-Madori also highlighted his achievements, including securing white-collar jobs for over 40 youths from the local government area.
