Foreign Affairs Minister Tuggar resigns over Bauchi gov ambition

Ebun Emmanuel –March 30, 2026
The Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has reportedly hand in his resignation to President Bola Tinubu, paving the way for his 2027 governorship ambition in Bauchi State.
Peoples Gazette reports that a source close to the minister confirmed Tuggar’s intention to contest under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
His resignation comes following the March 31 deadline presidential directive for those nursing political ambition to resign from the federal cabinet.
Recall that George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, had written that the directive aligns with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and applies to all presidential political appointees aiming to participate in party primaries or elections.
This includes ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, senior special assistants, directors-general, and heads of federal parastatals.
