#FreeNnamdiKanuNow: Security operatives changes tactics, accompany protesters

A major U-turn has been observe in the police disposition as reports indicate that police and security operatives are no longer firing teargas at protesters in some areas in Abuja and instead, they are accompanying the demonstrators along major routes.

From Shehu Shagari Way to Aso Drive, and the Federal Secretariat, maintaining order, decorum and ensuring thethe protests proceed safely seem to be the new order.

Presently the protest remains peaceful, with more citizens joining as it progresses, although traffic continues to be affected in the city centre.

Observers describe the scene as a massive, orderly demonstration advocating for the immediate release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Authorities have urged motorists and residents to exercise caution while commuting along affected corridors, as the protest continues into the afternoon.

Earlier, there were reports that the demonstrations had been violently disrupted in various venues in the capital city Abuja as police rained teargas at protesters.

The protesters subsequently fled from tear gas and police attempts to disperse the crowd, with some seeking shelter in nearby streets and buildings.
