Friday is Eid-el-Fitr, Sultanate council declares

The Sultanate  Council Advisory Committee on Religion Affair has declared Friday as the Eid-el-Fitr day.

It explained that since the new moon of Shawwal 1447AH was not sighted on Wednesday, corresponding to the 29th day of Ramadan 1447AH, hence the Eid-el-Fitr would be observed on Friday.

A statement by the Chairman of the Advisory Council, Professor Sambo Junaidu, Wazinrin Sokoto, said the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence  Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has accepted the report and has according declared March 20, 2026, as a ye first day of Shawwal (Day of Eid-el-Fitr).
