Heartland FC players, officials in auto accident

Players and officials of Heartland FC of Owerri, Imo State were on Friday involved in a ghastly accident that disrupted their journey to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-season Tournament.

The accident happened at Umunna, close to Okigwe, still within Imo State. It was gathered that the vehicle conveying the players, in an attempt to dodge an oncoming vehicle collided with another parked vehicle from another accident.

Although no death was recorded some players and officials sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The club, in a statement by the club’s spokesperson, Tunde Liadi on Friday, said some players and officials who sustained injuries received first-aid treatment at a nearby facility and would continue their treatment in the state capital, according to.

He said, “Right now, we are on our way to Owerri. We had three buses on the journey, and one of them was involved in the accident. We have managed to use the other two buses to convey everyone to Owerri.
