Ibadan Stampede: Police detain principal of host school

The Oyo State Police Command has detained the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi.

Fasasi was invited by the police on Wednesday and has been detained since then.

Fasasi’s detention was said to be in connection with the stampede that occurred on the school premises on Wednesday.

No fewer than 32 children were said to have lost their lives as a result of the stampede.

The incident took place during a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, held at Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan.

A source said Fasasi was invited by the police around 4pm on Wednesday and he honored the invitation.

The source added that the principal was detained at the Criminal Investigation Department, in the Iyaganku area upon arrival.

The source said, “The principal of the school, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, has been detained by the police.

“He was invited around 4pm. yesterday (Wednesday) and he honored the invitation.

“He has been detained since then. He has not been released.”
