The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The Chairman of ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owansonye, who was represented by the ICPC Ondo/Ekiti States’ Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Mr Kupolati Kayode, said the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has done a good job in fighting corruption since he assumed office less than two years ago as the 4th substantive VC.

The ICPC boss said the inauguration of the anti-corruption unit demonstrated the commitment of leadership of the institution in domesticating the anti-corruption crusade.

Owansonye explained that the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, which was founded in 2001 in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, would serve as an internal regulatory mechanism.

He added, “The unit will also undertake a periodic sensitisation of staff on and against corruption with a view to proffering solution and developing code of ethics for staff, ensuring compliance, monitoring budget implementation and investigating complaints.”

Also at the event, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner appealed to the management of the Federal University Oye Ekiti to give the ACTU members an enabling environment to fully carry out their duties.

“ACTU initiatives are not intended to undermine the authority of management but rather to complement it, especially in mainstreaming a positive anti-corruption culture. I will therefore request full support and backing of the management for the success of the unit, especially in providing adequate funding for its duties.”

Earlier, the Vice- Chancellor applauded the ICPC for establishing ACTU in the ivory tower.

Fasina pledged the cooperation of management to the ACTU members and support for the activities of the Unit.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated ACTU Chairman, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, who doubles as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic said, “We will work assiduously with other members of the Unit in actualizing the mandates of ACTU for the mutual benefit of the institution and the society at large.”

The newly inaugurated ACTU members of FUOYE also include the Secretary, Mr Olumuyiwa Ajayi, as well as Mr Wapji Nenmatne,  Mr Adebayo Folasade and Mr Usman.
