The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday presented certificates of return to winners of the February 21, 2026, Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
The presentation was done by the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mallam Aminu Idris.
Those who got certificates included the newly re-elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, and his Vice, Mohammed Nadabo.
Idris congratulated the winners, describing the exercise as the formal conclusion of a successful and transparent electoral process.
The REC disclosed that the certificate presentation covered the six area council chairmen and their deputies, as well as 62 councillors who emerged winners across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He charged them to use their office for the good of the citizens.
“I wish, on behalf of the Commission, to congratulate all of you for your success at the polls. I urge you to see your mandates as a call to duty to the people,” the REC said.
He also expressed gratitude to stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force and various political parties, for their roles in ensuring a free and fair election.
